Global Beer Industry Outlook
Beer is the most popular alcoholic beverages and its consumption increased every year. Changes in lifestyle, rise in personal income and greater acceptance of beer like a refreshing beverage drive this growth not only in European market but also in global beer industry. Lager and ale types dominate the market but there is an observed increase to consumers’ inclination toward exploration of all kind of beer.In 2017, the global beer industry was valued at 593,024 million $ and its growth is estimated to 685,354 million $ by 2025, with a CAGR of 1,8% from 2019 to 2025 (allied market research, 2017). Total Eu28 beer production 2016 is 400.168.000 hectolitres while total all (EU-28 plus Switzerland, Turkey and Norway) is 415.517.000 hectolitres, Germany is the first producer with 94.957.000 hectolitres while Malta had produced 170.000 hl in 2016 (brewers of Europe, 2017).
WHAT HAPPENS TO THE BEER WHEN TEMPERATURE CHANGES?
Temperature does affect beer. However, it is not temperature cycling that destroys beer, but exposure to warm temperatures. Beer is best preserved when kept cold… kind of like milk. A 66 cl. bottle of 2% will last a lot longer in your fridge than on your kitchen counter. Keeping beer at room temperature can drop a beer’s shelf life from nearly six months to only a few weeks, and exposing the same beer to very warm temperatures can affect its flavour in a matter of a couple of days. Imagine what can happen during a transoceanic shipment, without any protection from temperature changes.Firstly, hop flavours and aromas will be diminished, and then malt flavours that used to remind you of chocolate and caramel will begin to meld into a generic sickly “sweet” flavour.
